"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12

Small Groups

Outside of Recharge Youth Group, there are an unlimited number of possibilities for students in grades 6-12 to get plugged into either a life-sharing or Bible Study small group. Each group typically has 4 or 5 youth participants and can meet at church or elsewhere on a weekly basis. Some groups are student-led while others are led by an adult.

Sunday School

On Sunday mornings at we offer classes for all ages (Preschool - Adult). During the summer, classes meet at 10:15 am. Most classes meet downstairs. Watch the web site, bulletin or newsletter for fall hours.

Parent Support

The Bible reminds us in Deuteronomy that parents have the primary responsibility of raising children to know and have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. At the same time, the church is commanded to provide help and encouragement to parents. In response to this, we offer two free resources to support and encourage parents of teens.

Parents of Teens Support Group currently meets 10:15 - 11:15 am Sunday mornings during the summer in the lower level of Valley Covenant Church. Relevant scripture, practical ideas, mutual support with people who understand and more are included in this time together. Watch the web site, bulletin or newsletter for fall hours.

Parent Link e-mail newsletter Each month, Chris sends out a free e-mail newsletter that features teen trends, statistics, articles, music, and movie reviews and discussion questions parents of teens can use at home to foster family talks. There is also a calendar page showing our youth and family related events that your family can participate in. Contact Chris Ravn 645-8872 ext. 11 with your name and e-mail address if interested in receiving this valuable resource.

Discipleship / Confirmation

From Sept. to April. Students in grades 7th & 8th learn about the basics of the Christian faith and personal disciplines that will help them grow in their spiritual walk with the Lord. For more information, call Jim Ahlberg at (815) 562-7880.

Special Events, Retreats & Camps

Events like hayrides, Christian concerts, and weekend retreats are just a few of the opportunities that are periodically scheduled for both Jr. and Sr. High students. Some events are scheduled on our own. Others are planned along with other Covenant churches or different denominations in order to provide more energy and community for Christ.

CHIC 2009

These special events, retreats and camps provide an encouraging environment outside the church walls where young people can deepen their relationships with friends and with Christ.

Permission & Medical Forms

In order to participate in special events (off site), each student must fill out and turn in a permission/medical form. Adobe Acrobat Reader is needed to access these PDF files, or call the office and Chris will mail you one. You do not need this form to attend weekly Recharge meetings or other events held at the church.

  • Permission Form
  • Service & Missions

Serving others is a key component as we grow in our faith. We frequently offer opportunities for youth to serve others in nursing homes, Bread of Life food pantry ministry, and worship services. Mission trips outside the area are also planned from time to time in addition to other opportunities that the Lord provides.

    Youth Ministry Leadership Team

All of this is possible because of God's provision of dedicated adult leaders and interested youth taking on leadership roles. Our youth ministry team meets on the third Monday of each month at 7 pm at the church. These meetings include a devotional message, event planning, training, mutual support, fun & prayer. High school students are given opportunities in leadership and are exposed to situations where they lead younger students.

If you are interested in serving on the youth ministry team, please read and sign form listing our guidelines for leadership. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view this PDF file, or call Chris at the office and he will mail you one.
